GREAT FALLS - Former N-F-L player and Montana native Ryan Leaf was sentenced this afternoon in a Cascade County courtroom.

During Tuesday's hearing, Leaf was sentenced to seven years with the Montana Department of Corrections, with two of those years suspended.

Leaf was arrested in Great Falls back in April.

At that time he was charged with one count of burglary, one count of theft, two counts of possession of dangerous drugs, and violating his parole.

Lefa's arrest came just two days after he had been arrested and released on similar charges.

Some of Leaf's sentence will be spent in substance abuse treatment and in pre-release.

It was Leaf's attorney, who asked that substance abuse treatment be included in the sentence, tellling the court, "I believe Ryan is ready to face his addiction head-on."
