Carpenter signs 3-yr extension with Dolphins
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) Dan Carpenter's agent says the Miami Dolphins kicker has signed a three-year contract extension with the NFL team.
Agent Ken Staninger confirmed the extension through the 2013 season to the Missoulian on Wednesday, but he would not discuss the salary. The Dolphins have not announced the deal.
Florida's Palm Beach Post, citing NFL Player Association records, reported the deal was worth more than $6.2 million.
Carpenter made the NFL's all-rookie team in 2008 and played in the Pro Bowl last season.
The Helena native holds the UM scoring record and the Football Championship Subdivision's kick scoring record with 413 points. He has converted 46 of 53 field goals and 77 of 78 extra points in two seasons with the Dolphins.

,MSU-Billings signs 4 to track, cross country
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) Montana State-Billings track and cross country coach Dave Coppock has announced the signing of four in-state recruits.
Joining the Yellowjackets in the fall are Renae Hepfner of Belt, Shena Buxbaum Wald of Billings, Dan Osborne of Helena and Shawn Skelton of Bozeman.
Hepfner helped Belt win four state cross country titles. She also competed in volleyball, basketball and track.
Wald comes to MSU-Billings as a graduate student. She earned Class AA all-state honors in both cross country and track at Billings West from 1999-2001.
Osborne is a Helena High graduate who finished fifth at the Class AA state cross country meet as a junior. In 2009, he finished seventh at the Junior Olympic National Cross Country meet in Reno, Nev.
Skelton earned all-state honors in the hurdles and the 1,600 meter relay as a senior at Bozeman High.
,UM names interim assistant volleyball coach
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) Montana volleyball coach Jerry Wagner has announced the hiring of Allison Lawrence as interim assistant coach.
Lawrence most recently coached at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She replaces Kandice Kelly, who resigned earlier this summer after three seasons with the team to pursue a career in business.
Lawrence is a 2005 graduate of Oregon State, where she was a four-year starter at outside hitter. She spent the 2009 season at Trinity, where the team won 30 games and advanced to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals. She was a volunteer assistant at Oregon State in 2005 and was an assistant at Pomona-Pitzer in 2007 and La Verne in 2008, both Division III schools in southern California.
Wagner says a search for a permanent replacement will be conducted at the end of the season.
,Glenn to appear on the mtn. network
LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) Former Wyoming football coach Joe Glenn will be a studio analyst for the Mountain West Sports Network, the mtn., this fall.
Glenn will appear on the network for about six games.
Glenn was 30-41 with the Cowboys before being fired in 2008.
Former Denver Broncos general manager and Air Force football player Ted Sundquist also will do some football work for the network.
