UGF athletics director resigns after 3 weeks

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) University of Great Falls officials say athletics director Andrew Jugan has resigned after three weeks on the job.

Jugan began working at UGF on June 1. On Thursday, he said his working at the UGF may not be the best fit for him or the university.

UGF President Eugene J. McAllister says the school is disappointed, but understands Jugan's decision. He says the search for a full time athletics director will resume immediately. He said he hopes to have someone on board by the fall.

SURREY, B.C. (AP) Former Montana State quarterback Travis Lulay will start for the B.C. Lions Friday night when they take on the Toronto Argonauts in a Canadian Football League game.

Lulay got the start after Casey Printers suffered a knee injury last Friday in a 16-12 loss to Montreal.

He appeared in 16 games last season for the Lions, mostly in relief, and completed 22 of 36 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns. He completed 9 of 15 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown in the second half of the Lions' 37-18 loss to Saskatchewan this season.

Lulay played at Montana State from 2002-2005, setting school records for career passing yards with 10,746 and for career total offense with 12,205 yards.

, RECORD ROCK BASS

Ashland man catches record rock bass

MILES CITY, Mont. (AP) An Ashland man caught a rock bass that weighed less than a pound, but it was still a state record.

State Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials say Lance Dennis caught the fish at lower Crazy Head Springs on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation on May 14.

Dennis said that he'd caught rock bass before, but the one he caught this spring was the largest he'd ever seen.

He called local game warden Bill Dawson, who met him at an Ashland store where the fish was weighed on a certified scale. The fish weighed 0.82 pounds and was 97/8 inches long, breaking the old record of 0.57 pounds and 8.6 inches. That fish was caught in 1989 at Tongue River Reservoir.
