CHENEY, WA - The site and seeds are finally determined for the 2011 Big Sky Conference women's basketball tournament. And Montana's women earn a four-seed after winning 66-60 at Eastern Washington Saturday.
Portland State, with its two-point victory over Montana State Saturday coupled with Northern Colorado's eight-point loss at Idaho State, sends the six-team, three-day tournament to Portland, Ore., for the first time.
Montana (15-14, 10-6 BSC) will face No. 5 Idaho State (18-11, 9-7 BSC) Thursday at 9 p.m. (MT) in the tournament's second quarterfinal game.
The Bengals denied Northern Colorado tournament hosting rights with their 69-61 win over the Bears Saturday afternoon at Pocatello, Idaho.
Thursday's first quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. (MT) will feature No. 3 Montana State (17-13, 11-5 BSC) against No. 6 Eastern Washington (12-17, 8-8 BSC).
The Montana schools both swept their quarterfinal opponents during the regular season.
Montana had 61-54 (home) and 63-60 (away) wins over Idaho State, Montana State had 70-56 (home) and 62-46 (away) wins over Eastern Washington.
Awaiting the quarterfinal winners will be No. 1 seed Portland State (19-10, 12-4 BSC), which won for the 11th time in 12 games Saturday with its 65-63 victory over MSU, and No. 2 Northern Colorado (17-12, 12-4 BSC).
The Bears will play the highest remaining seed from Thursday's quarterfinal winners in Friday's first semifinal game at 7 p.m. (MT). The Vikings will follow against the lowest remaining seed at 9 p.m. (MT).
The tournament championship game will be played at 3 p.m. (MT) Saturday and broadcast on Altitude.
