Billings travelers will soon be able to take a nonstop, low-cost flight to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Allegiant Air announced Tuesday morning that beginning April 26th it will offer a jet service twice a week between Billings and the Oakland International Airport, across the bay from San Francisco.

"The Bay Area appeals to a lot of different people for all the various things that there are to do in that area. There is terrific culture, food, attractions, you know Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge, Napa Valley. There are a million things to do in that area. It's well known as one of the premier cities in the world," Allegiant Travel Company President Andrew Levy said.

Allegiant Air makes up about 11-12-percent of the Billings Logan International Airport market with flights to Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.

"The thing that is unique about Allegiant is they really haven't impacted the other airlines to as large of a degree as if it was another full-time carrier. The way they market their services, they tend to get people off the couch and take them someplace that is fun," Assistant Director of Aviation and Transit at Billings Logan International Airport, Kevin Ploehn, said.

He said he expects Allegiant will continue to grow as it brings new flights to the community.

Allegiant Air flew its first flight out of Billings in 2006, to Las Vegas.

KTVQ-TV has designated the Grand Prize for this contest as 2 Allegiant Air Round-trip plane tickets from BIL to OAK .

KTVQ-TV reserves the right to restrict the local winners to only persons whose primary residence is within a 150 mile radius of the affiliate's' office.

Employees of KTVQ-TV, its respective parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising sponsors and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of each are not eligible.
