GREAT FALLS - Krisha Nandlal, a candidate to become Justice of the Peace in Cascade County, was booked into jail on Tuesday morning after reportedly driving drunk and fleeing the scene of an accident.
Police tell us Nandlal was found walking in a ditch about 30 blocks from the crash site.
Nandlal is facing four misdemeanor charges: driving under the influence, careless driving, failure to remain at an accident scene, and failure to give notice of an accident.
Police were called to the corner of 13th Street and 17th Avenue South just before 3 a.m.
The caller said an SUV had just hit a bench and was driving off with a flat front tire and its horn blaring.
The vehicle was found abandoned about a mile and a half away, and police report they found Nandlal hiding about a mile farther down the road.
Nandlal allegedly admitted to having a couple of drinks.
His blood alcohol content was recorded at 0.135, which is over the legal limit.
Nandlal has worked as an assistant public defender.
He'll appear on the November ballot as a candidate in the Justice of the Peace race; that office involves handling misdemeanor charges within the county.
