The highway has been cleared and both lanes are open for traffic, according to the Montana Department of Transportation.
Emergency crews are responding to a two-vehicle, injury accident on the Huntley Bridge on the Shepherd side.
Highway 312 is closed between Fry Road in Shepherd and Nahmis Road in Huntley.
The Montana Department of Transportation reports the crash was a head-on collision and both lanes of Highway 312 at mile post 8.7 are closed. There is a detour in place through Huntley and turning west on Shepherd Road.
Montana Highway patrol Sgt. Buck O'Niell said the crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. when a passenger car was attempting to pass another vehicle and hit a van head-on after striking a guardrail.
The driver of the car, a male in his 20's, reportedly suffered serious injuries and remains in the hospital. A woman and four young children in the van were taken to the hospital to be check, but did not appear to suffer any serious injuries.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Ben Panas said during an interview Wednesday an investigation is underway to determine if alcohol and speed were factors.
