The human-caused Bear Trap Fire burning west of Cherry Creek in Madison County has grown to 200 to 300 acres.

Camping and day use areas along the Madison River, including river floating for today, is closed, according to officials.

Officials say that winds are so strong in the area and the fire is moving so fast that it is dangerous for crews to get out in front of it, so they are fighting it from the sides and from above.

It is 0% contained.

Madison County Fire and Sheriff's Office with help from many Gallatin County Fire Departments and Gallatin County Sheriffs Deputies with MT DNRC are actively fighting the fire. Two helicopters and 25 engines are at this fire this afternoon.
