HELENA- Area residents took a glance back in history as three historic WWII aircrafts landed in Helena on Wednesday.
The Wings of Freedom Tour travels across the United States paying tribute to the airmen who flew them.
The B-17 Bomber, the P-15 Mustang. and the B-24 Heavy Bomber all touched down for a few hours at the Executive Air landing strip. Veterans and historians both got a chance to peek inside.
"A lot of the older veterans come back and relive some of their experiences that they had during the war. And there is something new for each generation that comes. We see a lot of veterans bringing their children and grandchildren to show them what they did 60 and 70 years ago," Flight Engineer Bruce Syrett said.
He added that after the war many of the aircrafts were scrapped for their raw aluminum. He says these rare aircrafts are among the few still left to help tell the story of veterans and their sacrifice.
