BRIDGER- There have been an increasing number of vehicle accidents at the intersection of Highways 310 and 72, just south of Bridger, MT. In the last month and a half, there have been an estimated 10, non-fatal accidents; the latest happening early Tuesday morning. Montana Department of Transportation says that most of the accidents are related to the change that had to be made at the intersection because of road construction. Most drivers are reported to be going too fast when approaching the sharp corner. Often times, the speed limit change signs are not seen soon enough for drivers to slow down when approaching the intersection from Highway 72.
DOT says that procedures are being put into place to help motorists recognize that a significant decrease in speed is needed to make the turn. Billings DOT Director Stefan Streeter says that additional signs warning of the turn and speed limit reduction are being installed as well as amber, flashing lights along the side of the highway.
