FIRST REPORT: BILLINGS, MT - Wildlife officials in Montana have euthanized a grizzly bear after they determined it was responsible for a triple mauling at campground just outside Yellowstone Park.
The bear was positively identified as responsible following DNA tests today. The sow killed a Michigan man and injured two other campers early Wednesday morning at the Soda Butte campground in Cooke City, Montana.
The three yearling cubs will be sent to ZooMontana, a zoo in Billings, MT. Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks officials said the sow had to be killed based on the circumstances of the three separate attacks on sleeping campers.
The US Forest Service will perform and autopsy to try and determine why the bear displayed unusual predatory behavior. Kevin Kammer, 48, of Grand Rapids, Mich was found dead at the campground early Wednesday morning. Several campgrounds in the area remain closed following the attack.
