Griz take over #1 spot in FCS Poll

MISSOULA - The University of Montana moved up to the No. 1 spot in the Sports Network Football Championship Subdivision poll released Monday.
Montana was the national runner-up last season and was ranked second behind national champion Villanova in the preseason poll.


Villanova lost 31-24 to FBS opponent Temple while Montana downed NCAA Division II Western State of Colorado 73-2 on Saturday, leading to a switch in the top two spots. Montana received 57 first-place votes while Villanova received 46. Appalachian State stayed at No. 3.


Among Big Sky Conference teams, Eastern Washington fell four spots to 17th and Weber State fell one spot to 20th after weekend losses. Montana State remained No. 24 after a 59-10 win over NCAA Division II Fort Lewis.
