The U.S. Postal Service has recently developed a program that identifies unused or under-utilized venues, and facilities that fit that bill are being put up for sale - including the Post Office building in downtown Great Falls.

GREAT FALLS - The Great Falls Post Office met their criteria, and will soon be on the market.

Postmaster Rick Kindsvatter noted, "The second and third floor are not being utilized at all. A small portion of the basement is being used by the Post Office, but other than that and the first floor, the rest is vacant."

Federal courtrooms formerly occupied some of the space, but when they moved to their new location on the Missouri River last spring, the Post Office began to feel the pinch, and postal officials say that selling the building is their best option.

They add that it will have little effect on customers, with Kindsvatter stating, "The sale of the facility will be subject to maintaining our retail presence here. Delivery routes may move to a different facility, but we'd still have the window services and P.O. boxes available for customers here."

A listing agent and price for the venue are still undetermined, but Kindsvatter says he anticipates those details will be sorted out in the coming weeks.

Kindsvatter says a representative from the U.S. Postal Service will come to Great Falls within the month to chart an official development plan for the building.
