CASPER, Wyo. (AP) The discovery of another large walleye at Harry Yesness Pond in Casper is prompting the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to remind anglers that a new state law will soon increase penalties for illegal fish stocking.
A Casper resident recently caught a four-pound, 21-inch female walleye at the pond and called the game department.
The game department manages Yesness Pond as a trout fishery for children. The department says someone illegally stocked walleye into the pond, where they are preying on the stocked trout.
Starting July 1, the penalty for illegally introducing fish species into Wyoming waters will increase up to a $10,000 fine and a year in jail.
