BILLINGS - At first glance, this high school senior blends right in with his choir classmates. But, if you listen a little closer, you'll hear a voice that will get your foot tapping.

Danny Jones of Billings was recently featured on the hit show American Idol. It's an experience that wouldn't have happened without his sister.

"She was like we're going to Denver, try out for American Idol, make it a family trip and I was like no, I don't want to," said Danny.

He and his family waited for hours at Invesco field for his moment in the spotlight.

"You get nervous, but right before you get up there, you kinda just have to think to yourself, like this what I do. This is what I want to do with my life, so here we go and you put all that you have on the stage."

Danny sang his version of Hit the Road Jack and sang his heart out.

"When I got the golden ticket I was kinda freaking out. I busted out the door and gave my mom and dad a big hug. I was very happy that I had them standing out there, cause they were just the two best faces to see."

Once he was in Hollywood, Danny decided he needed to take a risk and performed his rendition of Britney Spear's Oops, I did it again.

"It was one of the best moments of my life, standing on the Kodak stage singing. Just being able to be there and play my music was phenomenal. And Kara said for what it's worth, I dig you kid and Ellen was dancing."

This whirlwind experience has made quite the impact on this Montana boy.

"It has definitely changed my whole life. I mean, it's a huge stepping stone in my career. I put all that I had into it and now I'm back here pursuing my music."

And although he didn't land a spot on the Top 25, his spot on Idol is just the beginning of his journey in the music business.

Danny says after graduation he plans on moving to Los Angeles to pursue his singing career. This Friday, he will play in a Haiti benefit concert at 7:30 pm at Off the Leaf.
