BILLINGS-The Billings Police Department swore in four of their newest officers today. They are 23-year-old Robert Miller of Billings, 33-year-old Matthew Edwards of Miles City, 24-year-old Spencer Snelling of Judith Gap and 30-year-old Matthew Widdekind of Bozeman.
The new officers went through an intense hiring process and now must complete seven days of weapons training, followed by three months at the academy in Helena and finally, 14 weeks of field training before hitting the street.
When asked what inspired him to work for the Billings Police Department, Snelling said it's something he has always wanted to do. "I went to college for it at the University of Montana. I majored in sociology with an emphasis in criminology. It's just kind of a passion I've always had. So I'm very honore4d to be able to work for the Billings Police Department."
Police Chief Rich St. John also offered words of advice to these new officers. He told them to find time for their families and if they focus on their job, it's something he believes, they can all do well.
