BILLINGS - Former Rocky Mountain College volleyball star Hailey Pearce died Monday in a car accident, according to Washington State Troopers. She was driving through Washington after attending a weekend wedding in Billings.

Troopers are still investigating the cause, but say Pearce didn't see a man driving a Chevy service truck at about 20 miles per hour before her Acura rear-ended the truck. The other driver was not injured, but Pearce's car was totaled.

Pearce was air-lifted to a hospital in Richland, Washington, where she later died.

The 25-year-old had just finished her first season as head volleyball coach at Eastern Oregon in the Frontier Conference.

Between 2004-2008 she was a four-year-starter at Rocky, including conference Freshman of the Year in 2004. After graduating with a Business Management degree in 2008, Pearce spent the next two years as Rocky's junior varsity head coach.
