Firefighters respond to Rosebud Fire, public asked to avoid East Rosebud Road

UPDATE BILLINGS - The Rosebud fire continues to grow. It is now estimated at 200 acres and is prompting fire bosses to order more resources.

The fire, which was reported shortly after 1:00pm this afternoon, is burning actively in grass and timber. The cause of the blaze is unknown.

There are no evacuations or road closures at this time, but the public is asked to avoid East Rosebud Road to ease congestion due to fire traffic.

FIRST REPORT

3:15 p.m. Firefighters are responding to a new fire six miles southwest of Roscoe this afternoon. The Rosebud Fire was reported shortly after 1:00pm this afternoon. The fire is 25-30 acres, burning in heavy timber and grass, at the base of the mountains on private lands.

The cause of the fire is unknown, firefighters from Red Lodge Fire Department, Absarokee Fire Department, Forest Service, and the Montana DNRC are responding. Two air tankers, two helicopters, and numerous engines, water tenders and dozers are also en route.

There are no evacuations or road closures at this time, but the public is asked to avoid East Rosebud Road to east congestion due to fire traffic.
