SHEPHERD - A grass fire burned about 30 to 40 acres of private land, Wednesday afternoon in Shepherd.

The fire started around 1:00 near Highway 3 at mile marker 13. Captain Lisa Openshaw of the Shepherd Fire department says the metal wheels on the railroad track sparked and caused the fire.
Openshaw says firefighters contained the fire by 2:30 and finished mopping up by 4:30.
The fire burned sage brush and yucca plants.
Alkalai Creek and Broadview also sent trucks. A total of 12 firefighters battled the fire.
No one was injured and not structures threatened.
