Fire season begins: Grass fire burns near Briarwood

UPDATE 2:20 p.m.

Mop-up efforts are underway. Battalion Chief Terry Larson said McMasters Road will remain closed for about another 30 minutes.

Larson said it took crews about 18 minutes to get the fire under control, and an investigation into the cause will begin as soon as mop-up efforts are complete.

BILLINGS - Billings Fire Department brush and engine crews responded Tuesday to a grass fire burring in the Briarwood subdivision.

The fire was on the cliffs north of Torrey Pines Drive, north of the 16th green of the golf course and was about two acres in size.

It was reported about 1 p.m. and appeared to be mostly extinguished about 45 minutes later.

Gold course grounds crews and area homeowners attacked the blaze before fire crews arrived.
