BILLINGS - Come Tuesday night, Montana could have another candidate throwing his hat into the race for governor.
Montana Senate Majority Leader Jeff Essmann plans to make a major announcement during a statewide telephone town hall event Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
It has been widely speculated that Essmann will run for the governor's seat.
If he enters the race, Essmann joins seven other republican candidates, including former U.S. representative Rick Hill and terrorism expert Neil Livingstone.
The most recent republican to announce his candidacy, Robert Fanning, is a self-proclaimed conservative with a financial background.
Fanning announced his candidacy on Monday, however the Montana Commissioner of Political Practices dose not list him as a candidate yet.
Currently, two democrats, one independent, one libertarian, and one candidate who has yet to name his party, are also vying for the position as the state's governor.
