Officer shot and killed near Three Forks

THREE FORKS, MT Update: State Justice Department spokeswoman says an officer has been fatally shot near Three Forks.

THREE FORKS, MT - Sheriff's deputies and Bozeman police are responding to a report
of an "officer down" near Three Forks. Details have not been released, but Montana Highway Patrol has closed Montana Highway 2 between Three Forks and U.S. Highway 287.

We have no confirmed reports yet, but according to scanner traffic, the Montana Highway Patrol, Gallatin County Sheriff's Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department are on the scene. Officials are scattered across the area. Several callers have reported seeing more than a dozen emergency and law enforcement vehicles racing toward the Three Forks area.

Scanner traffic indicates that authorities are looking for a blue or green F250 Ford pickup truck and a man wearing blue jeans, a baseball cap and a tan jacket.

Emergency road blocks are set up, and according to police scanners, a manhunt of some sort is underway. We'll bring you more information as we receive it.
