BILLINGS- The City of Billings and Yellowstone County announce that emergency notification is now available for cell and VoIP phones.

The Billings City/County 9-1-1 Center has used Target Notification for several years to provide emergency notification of fires, floods, and evacuations to hard wired phones in affected areas to ensure citizens get the information they need to know. Notification service is now available for cell phone and VoIP users who register their telephone numbers and addresses at the Intrado Target Notification website.

Once registered, cell and VoIP phone users will be placed in the notification database within seven (7) days and at that time will be included in any emergency notifications that are issued for their registered address.

The new service now available to cell and VoIP phone users is just another part of the local early warning system that includes:

  • Outdoor Siren System
  • Emergency Alerting System
  • Local Media Broadcasts - Radio, Television, and Internet
  • NOAA Weather Alerts via Weather Alert Radio
  • Target Notification for wire line, cellular, and VoIP phones

Registering your cell or VoIP phone is free and easy. Links to the registration process can be found on both the City of Billings and Yellowstone County websites.
