East Helena man dies in New Year's Eve car accident

HELENA - A 47-year old East Helena man died in a car accident on New Year's Eve.

According to Helena Police Chief Troy McGee, around 8 pm the man was driving a small pickup truck heading west on Prospect.

He started to enter the northbound on ramp to the interstate and hit the curb, launching the truck in the air. It landed in a grassy area and hit a light pole.

Helena police and fire crews and St. Peter's ambulance all responded to the scene.

The driver was transported to the hospital and declared dead.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Lewis and Clark County Coroner Mickey Nelson has not yet released the victim's name.
