Dozens participate in Butte's 11th annual Ice Sculpting Contest

Almost 50 beautiful sculptures started taking shape in Uptown Butte early this morning.

Dozens of ice carvers worked in teams chipping away at 340 pound blocks of ice for the 11th annual Ice Sculpting Contest.

Judges ranked them all in adult and child categories for fabulous prizes.

Carvers say the process takes 5 to 6 hours, and each team creates their sculpture based on their own unique design.

Many prizes, including gift certificates good for most uptown retail outlets and restaurants, were given out for winners and runner-ups in the ice sculpting contest.
