ROUNDUP, Mont. - The state Department of Justice is investigating Musselshell County Sheriff Woody Weitzeil.
A spokesperson for Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says Weitzeil is being investigated for allegedly being "involved in improper use of property from the Sheriff's evidence room."
Musselshell County Attorney Kent Sipe says Weitzeil is the only person being investigated.
To avoid a conflict of interest, Sipe referred the case to the DCI on April 20th.
As part of the procedure, the Prosecution Services Bureau is reviewing the case.
Weitzeil has been with the Musselshell County Sheriff's office for 24 years.
He became Sheriff in 2004 after voters recalled Martin Malone.
Weizeil finished Malone's term and is running for re-election to his second term.
We contacted Sheriff Weitzeil and he chose to not comment at this time.
