HELENA - U.S. Representative Steve Daines (R-MT) was in Helena on Monday to address the Montana House and Senate.

He focused his speech on balancing the federal budget, and called on Congress to pass a balanced budget within 10 years.

Daines also said that the federal government's spending is out of control, and it could take a few lessons from the Montana Legislature.

He said, "The state constitution requires the Legislature to balance the budget every session. In fact, passing a balanced budget is the only constitutionally required duty of the Legislature. We need to ship you all back to Washington and show them how to get the job done."

Daines also said as he looks at balancing the budget he supports protecting programs like Medicaid and Social Security but that they need reforms to make them financially solvent.
