BILLINGS - The Billings Police Department is investigating a crash that sent five people to the hospital. The bizarre crash involved three vehicles and the collision sent the cars piling up.

The crash happened after 9 pm Saturday night in downtown Billings around the 300 block of North 28th Street. Police say Andrew Russell, 32, of Lame Deer was driving the van and failed to stop at a red light on 4th Avenue North. He swerved to avoid a vehicle and hit a sign. Russell then struck another vehicle and that's when the three vehicle collision occurred.

Three adults and two young children were also transported to St Vincent's Hospital. The extent of their injuries are unknown at this town.

Billings Police say alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
