HELENA - The Corral Fire in the Helena Valley may be blamed for more than just humans evacuating their homes.
Several people living along Green Meadow Drive say they have seen snakes crawling into and around their neighborhoods in recent days.
While snakes are not uncommon in Montana during hot, dry weather, they usually don't come out until later in the summer.
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials warn people to be aware and to alert their children of the dangers; they say that the snakes are probably leaving the burned area of the Scratchgravel Hills in search of food.
He says it might be quite some time before they go back into their dens or find new ones.
