BOZEMAN - A road construction worker was taken to the hospital after a semi truck backed over him while he was working in a construction zone on Interstate 90 this morning.

The incident happened at around 8:40 a.m. east of the Bear Canyon exit at mile marker 316 on Interstate 90 when a man on the road crew was standing behind a conveyer belt machine that was loading paving material and an 18-wheeler began backing up, officials at the scene said. The man didn't see the truck and it backed over his legs and pelvis.

The man suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken by Bozeman Deaconess Hospital by ambulance. Officials say he is in stable condition.

The man is an Montana Department of Transportation employee.

Both eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for about 15 minutes. Traffic was backed up all the way to the Bear Canyon exit.
