Cody renames street to honor Lt. Shane Childers

CODY, Wyo. (AP) - The city of Cody has named a portion of one of its streets in honor of 1st Lt. Shane Childers of Powell.
Childers was the first American killed in combat during the Iraq war.
The Cody City Council voted unanimously to rename the stretch of 26th Street between the Greybull Highway and Mountain View Drive to "Lt. Childers Street." The renamed portion passes by the Wyoming War Memorial near the Yellowstone Regional Airport.
The name change was requested by the Cody Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
An official dedication of the street is planned for Veteran's Day.
