Coal opponent talks in Billings

BILLINGS - An anti-coal advocate says coal will never be clean.
Janet Keating gave the keynote address at the 41st Northern Plains Resource Council annual meeting Saturday, at the Billings Crowne Plaza.
Keating is the executive director of the the Ohio Valley Environmental Council in West Virginia.
Keating's group deals with what it sees as pollution from coal, as well as other environmental concerns.
"There certainly is no such thing as clean coal," Keating said. "That is clearly a lie. It's dirty when you mine it. It's dirty when you wash it for market. It's dirty when you burn it. And it's dirty when you dispose of the ash."
Keating wants to eliminate coal, but says it needs to be a "just" transition...and take into the consideration jobs in the coal industry.
