BILLINGS - Two air tankers from Canada have arrived to help fight wild fires in Montana.
The Department of Natural Resources and Conservation ordered the Convair 580's from Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Each holds 2,000 gallons of retardant, about the same capacity as the PV-2 air tankers.
BLM Air Tanker Base Manager Jim Hassler says the planes will be based in Billings and available to fight fires throughout the state.
Hassler also says the DNRC saw the need for more resources with hot, dry weather expected this weekend.
With three PV-2's and the Canadian planes, five air tankers are available in Montana.
