BOZEMAN - Katie Bussey is heading back to China. Almost two months after representing the United States on an all-star squad that played in China on a 14-day tour, the former Montana State women's basketball standout returns as a member of the USA contingent that will play in the Four Nations Invitational, June 26 - July 11, starting in Yancheng.
"I'm definitely looking forward to going to China for a second time," Bussey said. "We'll be playing three Olympic teams, which is going to be another amazing experience. I know what to expect this time and I'm very excited to be going back."
Coached by Chris Denker, who orchestrated Bussey's first trip to China, the US squad will face the national teams from China, Russia and Great Britain, as they prepare for the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games. It will mark the first time a non-federation team will participate in a FIBA Olympic tune-up event.
Following its first three games, the US team will face the Chinese National B squad in a three-game series.
In her first tour of China, Bussey earned numerous all-tournament honors and poured in a tournament-best 23 points in a win over Australia.
Also named to the United States roster for the Four Nations Invitational are Dawn Evans, James Madison; Ashley Corrall, USC; Jence Rhoads, Vanderbilt; Brittany Carter, Memphis; Becky Burke, Louisville; Briana Gilbreath, USC; Amanda Johnson, Oregon; Kristina Santiago, Cal Poly; Cierra Bravard, Florida State; Becca Tobin, Arizona State; and Kali Bennett, Arizona State.
Bussey completed one of the best careers in Montana State history this winter. She became just the second player to score over 1,700 points. En route, Bussey became the all-time Big Sky Conference leader in three-point makes with 254 career treys. She also set a MSU record and tied the league mark for points in a single game when she scorched the nets for 41 against Idaho State.
Bussey was a four-time All Big Sky honoree; a four-time Big Sky All Academic pick; and was named WBCA All America Honorable Mention.
