HELENA- Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials are looking for the suspects who poached a large bull elk late Sunday afternoon and took only its head.
The poaching incident occurred sometime around the third quarter of the Super Bowl with reports indicating that the crime was committed on a hillside near McClellan Creek and Sawmill roads.
"We found that it was a large bull elk, it had been shot and left and abandoned, and its head had been removed, which indicated to me that it probably had a large set of antlers and somebody had shot it and killed it just to retrieve those antlers," FWP's Dave Loewen noted.
He's asking if anyone heard or saw anything suspicious in that area during that time to call 1.800.TIP.MONT. Informants can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
