Billings - Big Sky State Games organizers are kicking off the 9th Annual Big Sky Fit Kids registration January 14. Big Sky Fit Kids, the youth component of Shape Up Montana, is designed to develop healthy physical activity and eating habits of youth through a three-month team program and/or a school-wide "Fit Kids Day" activity day in May. Both options are FREE.
The team program runs February 1 - May 1 and is based on accumulated activity (12 minutes of vigorous activity equals one mile). The program is not a competition. An adult team captain (teacher, scout leader, etc.) leads a team of 10 to 30 youth. Team captains report the team's mileage on a monthly basis. Each team receives a team wall chart to track miles and individual tracking charts. Throughout the Big Sky Fit Kids program the Big Sky State Games and Eat Right Montana will provide weekly activity and nutrition tips to educate participants and help keep teams motivated. The first 200 adult Team Captains to register their team receive a free lunch bag. All Team Captains receive a FREE t-shirt.
Prize drawings will be held for teams reporting team mileage throughout the program. At the conclusion of the 3-month program, teams that meet minimum requirements will be entered in a drawing for one of three $500 awards for physical activity and one $500 award for teams that record fruit and vegetable consumption.
