BILLINGS - A Billings man is behind bars in the Yellowstone County after firing his pistol three times Wednesday, with one of the bullets striking himself.
Jonathan Hartman, 27, has been charged with felony assault, criminal endangerment, and partner family member assault.
Sgt. Kevin Iffland says the incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. in the Billings Heights Wednesday when Hartman and his girlfriend got into a verbal argument in the parking lot of the Main Street Casino.
At one point, Hartman shot his gun out the window of his car, and allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend.
He then fired the gun again, with that bullet going through the roof of the car.
Sgt. Iffland says when the man tried to put the gun away he ended up shooting himself in the upper leg, buttocks area.
The couple then drove to the Lake Elmo Mobile Court, where authorities caught up with them.
The shooter was taken to St. Vincent Healthcare, treated, then arrested.
Alcohol was involved in the incident.
