BNSF plans $335 million in railway improvements in Montana & North Dakota

FORT WORTH, TX - Burlington Northern Santa Fe is putting its money where its business is.

Thursday BNSF outlined its 2013 capital expansion project for Montana and North Dakota - to the tune of $335 million dollars.

In Montana, BNSF Railway plans to spend $115 million to maintain and expand its rail capacity.

Those plans include building three new unit train staging tracks - east of Glasgow, and adding machine vision technology in Miles City to help better detect damaged equipment.

In addition, more than 23-hundred miles of track in Montana is in line for surfacing and undercutting work as part of the BNSF's track maintenance program.

In North Dakota, BNSF's capital program for 2013 envisions spending $220 million state-wide.

Major North Dakota projects includes three new sidings near Minot, Tioga, & Palermo.

Since 2000, BNSF officials say the\railway has invested more than $42 billion to improve and expand its freight rail network.
