MANHATTAN - Local tactical gear manufacturer, Blackhawk!, hosted an economic celebration in Manhattan Tuesday evening with the official ribbon cutting ceremony at its new facility.
The new Blackhawk! facility in Manhattan measures 80,000 square feet.
"This is primarily our plastic injection center of excellence, so all the holsters, ABS type of plastic gear, would be made here," Blackhawk! President Anthony Acitelli said.
A visit from Gov. Brian Schweitzer, short speeches and a ribbon cutting ceremony christened the new injection molding manufacturing facility, declaring an important boost to the local economy.
"You could have taken these jobs to Shanghi, China. You could have taken them to the Philippines. You could have gone anywhere in the world to do this," Schweitzer said.
"The primary product that we produce here are holsters and we have a proprietary serp, called the Serpa holster, that services law enforcement and military primarily, but a lot of civilians buy the holsters as well for self-defense," marketing VP Kyle Tengwall said.
"Any time you have manufacturing jobs coming to Montana, it's exciting and when they're doing this kind of manufacturing, which is often off-shored and goes into other countries and around the world and isn't done in the US, to have American products made for American military...that's exciting," Chief Business Officer Evan Barrett said.
Military, law enforcement and consumers alike will soon be receiving products shipped from this facility.
The expansion keeps Blackhawk! in Montana and saves 100 jobs while adding another 50 to 75 skilled jobs.
