Billings woman finds happiness while completing her bucket list

BILLINGS-Trips around the world, trying something new; these ideas make the cut for most bucket lists. But for 69-year-old Diane Kylander, making others laugh is her top pick. "Nothing makes you feel better when you make someone laugh and have a good time. You know, because we all need to laugh. There's too much going on in the world. Everyone needs a break," Kylander said.

Diane's other checked off items include creating her comedy group "Comedy Tsunami" and starring in numerous plays. Therapists say bucket list goals vary from person to person, but it's their past that shapes the list. "It can be something that's dramatic, it can be a crisis they've over come. It can be an experience that they had that they wanted to end differently. It can be all kinds of things. I think it's a way for closure, a way for reconciliation," said Professional Counselor Michelle Phillips.

This comedian slash Broadway fanatic is all smiles now. But having fought depression most of her life, It was counseling that helped Diane figure out exactly what she wanted to do with her life. "I encourage people to find your passion. Because maybe you job wasn't you passion then you have the ability to select things that really mean a lot."

Diane expects to live another 30 years. The next items on her list range from some major accomplishments like writing a motivational comedy book, to mastering the world of social media. "I also want to learn how to use Facebook," she said with a laugh. "It's very challenging."

Whatever the goal is, Diane says to make sure it's something that gives and takes. "You have a choice. You can decide at age 70 that you want to sit back and enjoy your retirement or you can give back."

Diane along with her group Comedy Tsunami, uses their comedic talent to raise money for charities and other organizations. You can catch their next show on Saturday, March 9 here in Billings. Money raised will go towards the Domestic Violence Abuse Awareness Society. It will take place at Bones Brewery at 8:30 p.m.

You can also catch Comedy Tsunami on Saturday March 23 in Cody Wyoming for Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital. Exact location has yet to be determined.
