BILLINGS - A 52-year-old Billings woman accused of slashing her husband's face because he urinated on the bathroom floor was charged Tuesday with felony assault.
Shery Lynn Downs, who also is known by the last name Brooks, was scheduled to make her initial appearance on the charge in Yellowstone County Justice Court. She was being held in the county jail.
According to court documents, Downs was arrested Monday after officers were called to a residence at about 7:30 p.m. Officers said Downs' 68-year-old husband was sitting on the front steps holding a blood-soaked towel to his face. He told the officers his wife had cut his throat and she was in her bedroom.
Officers went inside the residence and found blood on the living room floor and drops of blood leading into a bedroom. Downs was located in the house, and officers said she was intoxicated but did not appear to have any injuries.
Downs initially told officers her husband hurt himself. She then said her husband had been causing problems all day by urinating on the floor and lying to the cable company an an effort to obtain service.
Court records state Downs told the officers she gave her husband a bottle of whiskey and he asked her to call 911 a short time later.
While being treated at a hospital, Downs' husband said his wife had been angry at him all day because he had urinated on the bathroom floor. The man said he was in his bedroom when his wife twice entered with a knife and threatened to "cut him up," court records state.
The man said the second time she came into the room she slashed his face with the knife.
An officer said the man suffered a cut that was several inches long. The injury required a special facial surgery to repair, court records state.
