BILLINGS - The Billings School Board declares a vacancy for one of its trustee positions. That means the trustee position is officially up for grabs, that is, if you live in northwest Billings.
Chair Teresa Stroebe says whoever is elected will play a vital role in helping move the board forward and will probably serve as a tie breaker, since the board has been evenly split on several issues.
Last month, former Chair Barbara Bryan resigned from the board leaving northwest Billings without a trustee. Residents who live in that part of the city have until Dec. 5 to apply to serve out the remainder of Bryan's term, which expires in May. The board will take a look at candidates on December 12.
Trustees also decided they'll meet the first weekend of January for a school board retreat.
In other news, the school board approved a five year transportation contract with First Student, the company that busses students. By going with a five year contract, the district will save $350,000.
