1 in hospital, 5 in custody as BPD investigates shooting

BILLINGS - UPDATE: One woman is in the hospital and five other people are in police custody this evening, after a shooting in South Central Billings Monday afternoon.

Police say two vehicles and six people were involved the shooting that took place in a parking lot at 4550 Underpass Ave.

The report originally came in as a drive-by shooting, but now police are questioning the nature of this incident.

What they do know is that gunfire was exchanged between a Honda sedan and a pickup truck around 1:45 p.m. in a parking lot along Underpass Avenue.

A woman passenger inside the Honda was shot in the head and taken to the hospital, she was the only person injured in the shooting, two other adults and two small children were also in the Honda. Three adults were in the pickup.

After the shooting happened, one of those adults in the Honda got into the pickup truck with the three other suspects and fled the scene.

Authorities were able to locate two of the suspects, a woman and man, near geyser park and the other two suspects, also male and female, at Hampton Inn in Billings.

Police did locate a handgun in the snow in the area of where the suspects were picked up.

The other handgun was found at the scene of the shooting in the Honda.

The woman's condition is not know at this point.

Police do not know who shot first or what led to the shooting, the investigation is ongoing.
