BILLINGS - The Belle Fourche Police Department, in western South Dakota, says the two Billings men arrested on Tuesday night during a drug bust have been charged with six felonies and two misdemeanors.
Those charges are all related to drug trafficking and possession of three different drugs.
Benjamin Roemer, 26, and Joshua Swigut, 24, were arrested shortly before midnight Tuesday after being pulled over for speeding on Highway 85 in South Dakota.
According to a press release provided by the Belle Fourche Police, a search of the vehicle resulted from receiving conflicting information about the men's destination and after Swigut allegedly told one officer that Roemer may have been traveling with medical marijuana.
During the search of the vehicle-officers found nine backpacks in the trunk of the car with $90,000 worth of drugs inside of them.
All in all, police say they found seven pounds of marijuana, 4.5 ounces of heroin and 1.5 ounces of hashish in the backpacks.
After the search, Roemer and Swigut were arrested and are both awaiting an initial court appearance while being held in the Meade County Jail in Sturgis, South Dakota.
