BILLINGS-One of Yellowstone County's worst DUI offenders has been served a heavy prison sentence. After his 14th DUI, William Grussing was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Of those DUI's, five of them are felonies, making him a persistent felony offender.
The 55-year-old appeared in Yellowstone County District Court Wednesday afternoon. Judge Susan Watters declared Grussing won't be eligible for parole until he completes an intensive alcohol treatment program. Judge Watters said this is her first time sentencing someone with this many DUI's.
Grussing received his first DUI in 1982 when he was 25 years old. While speaking to the court, Grussing said he had his first drink of alcohol with his dad when he was 14 years old. Grussing said he hopes his life can serve as a lesson to others and wishes to speak to the public about the negative effects of alcoholism.
After Grussing is granted parole, he will be under continued supervision.
