UPDATE: Montana-Dakota Utilities (MDU) now has a crew at the scene of the fire.

They are working to shut off the gas line.

------

BILLINGS - Billings firefighters are battling a gas line fire on Moore Lane.

The fire broke out Monday morning shortly before 9:30 a.m. and is burning at Brookstone Monument at 249 Moore Lane.

Firefighters are working to prevent the fire from spreading, as they wait for a Montana-Dakota Utilities crew to arrive on scene to turn off the the gas line.

According to Q2 photographer Rob Monaco, in an effort to prevent a gas line explosion, the firefighters are not extinguishing the flames. As long as they keep the fire from spreading, the situation is more safe with the gas burning, rather than building up.

There has been some damage to the exterior of the building.

We'll have more information as it becomes available.
