Authorities have identified a person of interest who they believe ignited the Bear Trap 2 Fire along the Madison River northeast of Ennis.
Madison County Sheriff Dave Schenk says that the fire is human caused and fireworks more than likely caused the blaze.
Schenk has not yet released the identity of the person.
The incident is being investigated by the Bureau of Land Management, law enforcement and the U.S. Forest Service.
At last estimate, the Bear Trap 2 Fire was at 14,770 acres and 12% containment.
The fire, which is burning 20 miles northeast of Ennis along the Madison River, has destroyed three structures.
Evacuations warnings are in effect for Blacks Ford south to Norris in Madison County. Gallatin County pre-evacuation notifications are in effect for Blacks Ford north into Gallatin County.
Recreation facilities in the Bear Trap Canyon corridor along the Madison River remain closed. Firefighting resources are working hard to make the Madison River corridor safe for public use. Floaters and anglers are urged to make plans to use other areas through July 9.
Access to the Madison River is closed on all BLM land within the Lower Madison River Special Recreation Management Area.
