MISSOULA - Andrew Barbosa will eventually give up a run. It just didn't happen tonight.
The 6'8" left-handed Osprey pitcher went six scoreless innings Saturday, giving up only one hit and striking out 13 Mustangs, on his way to his first win of the season in Missoula's 10-5 win. The 13 K's ties an Osprey franchise record.
Barbosa extended his scoreless streak to 16 innings to begin his major league career, after being drafted in the 36th round of this year's MLB draft out of the University of South Florida. He has only given up two hits in those 16 innings, and has struck out 24.
The Mustangs rallied after Barbosa was taken out of the game, getting a run in the 7th and four runs in the 8th, but osprey pitcher Patrick Smith came in late in the 8th to retire the final five batters and secure the win.
Billings is now 9-4 on the season, and leads the 2nd-place Osprey in the Pioneer League North standings by two games. The two teams play three more games in the series.
