Bakken Drug Ring Bust

BILLINGS - A drug ring operating right in the midst of seven Montana cities, comes crashing down.

A federal indictment details the operation of what Montana US Attorney Michael Cotter alleges is a major drug ring that used a network of couriers across Montana. Pure methamphetamine was distributed in the Bakken oil fields in eastern Montana and North Dakota.

Montana's Attorney General Tim Fox commends law enforcement and says their job isn't over yet.

"Drugs come into Montana from many different sources. Methamphetamine, while it was more of a local Montana issue a number of years ago before the Montana Meth project, a lot of that production has moved out of state, and some of it is in fact, we know international...and likely Mexico," said Fox

In court documents federal prosecutors alledge the drug ring operated out of a group of Treasure state cities; Sidney, Fairview, Billings, Big Timber, Columbus, Livingston and Bozeman beginning in April of last year.

A dozen people were indicted. Washington State resident Robert Ferrell Armstrong - also known as Dr. Bob, is believed to be the ring leader.

The Associated Press reports the defendants pleaded not guilty to the drug and weapons charges in federal court on Tuesday.

Fox says it's possible more arrests will be made associated with this specific Drug ring.
