BARCELONA - Dani Aragon of Billings beat her personal record in the 800 meter run by almost one second Wednesday in Spain, but it wasn't enough to qualify for Friday's finals at the World Junior Track & Field Championships.
Aragon clocked a time of 2:04:19 beating her previous best of 2:05:06, but she finished 5th in her heat. Only the top two qualifiers in each heat advance, plus the next two overall top times. The Billings Senior graduate finished 11th out of 24 runners in Wednesday's semifinals. She qualified on Tuesday in Barcelona with a quarterfinal time of 2:07:84.
For the second straight day, Great Brittan's Jessica Judd beat the entire field clocking in at 2:02:30. The only other American competing in the women's 800 is Ajee Wilson who finished second in her semifinal heat in 2:02:43. That qualifies her for Friday's finals.
The Championships continue through Sunday inside the same stadium that hosted track & field at the 1992 Summer Olympics.
